Anson Hui

Nineteen-year-old Anson Hui has given concerts in Europe, Asia and North American. Anson recently won the gold medal from the AADGT International Young Gifted Musicians Festival and performed in New York Carnegie Hall in March 2017.
At age 15, he won the grand prize at 2014 Indiana University Piano Concerto Competition, that he was the youngest contestant of this competition (winning over the international pianists from age 19 to 34).
He also won the grand prize at the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra Concerto Competition and the top prize winner of 2013 Thousand Islands Chopin International Piano Competition, 2014 MostArts International Mozart Piano Competition and 2010 The American Protégé International String and Piano Competition.
Anson has played piano concerto with orchestras such as Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra, Kindred Spirits Orchestra, York Symphony Orchestra, MostArts Festival Orchestra, Indiana University Orchestra, Canadian Sinfonietta and New York Sinfonietta. He performed the Mozart Piano Concerto #20 with New York Sinfonietta in New York City when he was only 11 years old and received a raving review:
“This was soul-satisfying Mozart. Anson is a major talent whose gifts deserve careful nurturing. One could readily imagine that one was hearing Mozart himself—as a child prodigy—at the keyboard, so preternaturally profound was young Anson’s interpretation. It is unlikely that Mozart could have played this concerto any more convincingly than Anson did.” ~ The Epoch Times, New York.
Anson began his music studies with Dr. Sofia Moshevich at the age of six. He studied with pianist Edward Auer from Jacob School of Music at Indiana University. He also took masterclasses/private lessons with Yoheved Kaplinsky (Julliard, USA), Emanuel Krasovsky (Tel-Aviv University, Israel), Jerome Lowenthal (Julliard, USA), , Eugene Pridonoff (University of Cincinnati, USA), Peter Bithell (Guildhall School of Music, England), Hee Sung Joo (Seoul National University, Korea), Vit Gregor (Charles University, Czech Republic), Petr Sefl (Czech Pianist, Baroque specialist), Max Wilcox (conductor/pianist, seventeen Grammy Awards winner) and among others.
Anson performed at Carnegie Hall in New York City after winning The American Protégé International String and Piano Competition when he was 11 years old. In Canada, he was the top prize winnie of the Canadian Music Competition (national) and was awarded The Kemble Trophy (the best of the festival for age 12 and under), the Tonoco Trophy (the best performance of Senior Division) and the Concerto Trophy at the Markham Music Festival. He won the Concerto Trophy at the North York Music Festival and performed with The Kindred Spirit Orchestra at the winner’s Gala. In 2012 he was given the Special Grand Prize in Royal Burlington Music Festival that he won over all different instruments and voices. He has also received the Most Promising Award at the Mandarin Lions Music Festival, the Most Outstanding Talent Award at the Richmond Hill Music Festival, The Best of Bach Trophy at the Music Scarborough Piano Competition, The Best of Bach Trophy and The Most Promising Trophy at the Canadian CCC Music Festival, He has won the first place and received scholarships from many other Canadian music competitions, such as The Kiwanis Music Festival of Greater Toronto, The Davenport Music Festival, The Peer Music Festival, The York Region Music Festival and The Pickering Music Festival.
Anson was diagnosed with Glycogen Storage Disease Type 1a since age 2. He had a daily g-tube internal feeding for 15 years and traveled over 60 cities in 20 countries, with all his feeding equipments. He had a liver transplant from an anonymous living donor back in May, 2016, which inspired his change from music to medicine. He is currently a 3rd year student at Laboratory Medicine Pathbiology Specialist Program in University of Toronto.
